5 Piece French Wardrobe - falling in this Cliché
I couldn't recall which year it was (2015? 2016? Or even earlier?), the word 'minimalism' seemed to be the trendist letter combination I've witnessed. Didn't pay much attention back then - I mean, it's nothing exciting - buy less things, less colours, less fun (abnormal) shapes, sounds like a monkish lifestyle.
Don't get me wrong, I'm no where near maximalist as long as we are not talking about bags (everyone has a weak spot, I hope?? Please confirm?), but the idea of only wearing the most basic stuff just did not appeal. Minimalist had always just been an excuse for me to buy expensive stuff - "yeah I'm going minimalism now and this will be my only purchase for the whole year", which of course, wasn't the case.
This year though, the idea of '5-piece french wardrobe' finally grew on me. I'd like to release some closet space by giving it a shot. So here we go.
How it works
It's not a new concept anymore. Every fashion season (spring/summer & fall/winter) I purchase no more than 5 pieces of clothing and accessories, including the following:
- clothes
- shoes
- jewlery
- handbags
- accessories such as belts, sunglasses, hats etc.
How it's been going
So far we are 1.5 months in the year 2020, I've purchased 3 items in total, which doesn't look like a good sign. Where did the money go?
1. A fleece hoodie by Aritzia
Something I surprisingly don't own any in my wardrobe. It makes a good Friday casual office look with a pair of check trousers and Converse.
2. Henley sweater dress by, again, Ariztia
This is a very feminine, cozy, and sexy dress. With a good pair of Wolford stockings and cashmere coat, it gives a good vibe to Saturday brunches with friends.
3. Coco handle by Chanel
Ok I'm incapable of taking a decent picture. But you get the idea.
Conclusion
Overall there's still a thin chance that I can stick to the 5 pieces per fashion season rule. I've been enjoying editing my wardrobe and taking care of the items I currently own. It does feel different when you know exactly what you have in the closet (I thought I knew too).
I talked a lot about purchases, but this should not be the point of this whole thing, how items are co-ordinated and utilized should be. And that will be discussed later.
